Simond Farsons Cisk plc, known by everyone as Farsons, is a household name in Malta thanks to their beer named Cisk. The Farsons Group of companies was founded in the late 1920’s by L. Farrugia & Sons. They named the business Farsons as it was their nickname. They opened their first brewery in Hamrun with their first creation being Farsons Pale Ale. Only a year later L.Farrugia & Sons chose to merge with British brewers H&G Simonds with the new company being named Simonds Farsons Limited. A few years later they started to produce Cisk and also expanded their market by also introducing soft drinks with the first one (and most popular) being Kinnie. In the meantime they also constructed a new brewery in Mriehel.

Since then Simonds Farsons Cisk plc kept on expanding its business by also entering the catering business through Express Catering Company Limited. They became operators of the “Wimpy” restaurants chain; nowadays they operate Burger King, Pizza Hut, KFC and Food Chain by setting up Food Chain Limited. They also import wines and spirits under the name of Wands Limited. In 2004 they also acquired Quintano Foods Limited to end the food importation sector. As you may notice, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc started off as a brewery but since then it has expanded its business reach to many new markets.

This website is about finding Businesses in the Maltese islands but before starting off about the businesses I thought I should start off by writing about Malta. Malta is an independent country located in the center of the Mediterranean sea. It’s location is highly strategic as it is stands between Africa and Libya. Malta is a European country that forms part of the European Union. Its population is that of around 400,000 persons.

Malta is made up of several islands, these are Malta, Gozo, Comino, Cominotto, Filfla and some other smaller islands. Malta’s most important sectors are the hospitality, financial and technology sectors. Up to some years ago, the hospitality industry was by far the most important but in recent years a lot of financial and technology companies started of moved to Malta.
